Require SPI camshaft specifications.
Hello,
I want to dial in the camshaft when I change the timing chain, the car is a standard spec 98 Rover SPI x Japan and I have been told it has a MPI block with a SPI head.
What I would l to know what the specs of the cam are, or where I could get them.
Thanks

Performance
you need to retain the cat on your model to pass mot. manifold wise if you wish to replace it you need an injection lcb manifold (has hole for sensor in side) with this it will have a knuckle joint pipe and on the end of that a flange that bolts to the cat. cat back you can use a rc40 but you need a cat back system, single or twin box. these have a flange to bolt onto rear of cat. after that next tuning step would be high lift rockers and ported headcylinder. then if you want to remove engine camshaft. also getting dystribitor advance modifyied will add few bhp normally and costs little. your engine is a spi/single point injection .

Which cam is the best for traffic use?
Hello I have 1.3 Mini Cooper with SPI, and soon i will make rebuild of my engine. I decide to change cam to have a little more power. But here i have a problem. In Vizards Tuning Tha A-Series Engine we can find: „...you are looking for power and economy, ... Kent Cams 256 Megadyne will produce quite a bit more power and a little more economy. ... These cams help primarily by increasing torque and reducing the need to change gear as often.” This cam have duration 254/254 degrees. So this will be great solution, but.... on another page we can find: „My experience with camshaft, has indicated that whatever duration of intake timing is used the engine seems to go better if the exhaust opening duration is longer typically by 10 – 15, but sometimes by as much as 20.” And here a have a problem. Standard cam have duration 230/252 (correct me if i am wrong), so intake timming is shorten than exhaust. But 256 Megadyne have 254/254. Is this cam realy good for road?? Or its better to buy 266 Megadyne which have duration 260/270? Most important is that i want a cam for normal traffic. Please help me to chose the best cam for my Mini :-) Best regards Witold

SPI Mini J spec
Hi
I have a 2000 Mini Cooper SPI and having trouble getting it going well. Actually runs perfectly but lacks any urgency and takes ages to run up the rev band in all gears.
Recent work: block honed (std 1275 bore), new rings, bearings and crank grind to 10thou, block re-faced, head ported and valves re-seated, SW5 swiftune camshaft. Plus loads of other non performance related parts.
Replaced all the notorious microbore hoses to back of inlet manifold.
what should I be looking at next to find the problem?
